{For the month of April I will be blogging alphabetically on the topic of travel tips.}
Ending on a bit of a boring note. But hey, we made it! A month of blog posts about travel tips. Hope it was helpful for some people. Today we're talking zip ties. For security.
Zip tie on the zipper. |
It seems like neither airports nor airlines will really take responsibility for the contents of your luggage. Sure, if they lose it they will try to get it back to you. What happens inside isn't their concern. Such as theft.
We've had some small items disappear from our checked luggage. We've heard of this happening to others, too. Usually not something of great enough value to go through the hassle of putting in a claim. Just little annoyances.
If you put a fancy pad lock on your suitcase, it will likely get "randomly" selected for a security search. They have every right to break that lock off and take a look. The solution is the simple zip tie. It will make it just a little bit more difficult for someone looking for an easy target. And if there is a legitimate search, you're not out a pad lock. Plus, you can tell if anyone has been into your bag.
So, there. That's it. Thanks for tuning in. See you all next year!
Bonnie Congrats on making through the A-Z Challenge, I've loved reading your posts. And hey, who doesn't love a zip tie?
ReplyDeleteCongrats on completing the challenge! Great tip :)
ReplyDeleteBrilliant! I'll have to do this when I go on vacation. I always keep my valuables with me but I'd hate to lose my favorite shirt or something.
ReplyDeleteYeah, it sucks to get somewhere and not have what you planned for.
DeleteGreat tip - esp if you're renowned (like me) to lose the keys of any lock you might use...

Exactly! Just make sure you have a means of opening it once you land. :)
DeleteI've been lucky and never had anything taken from my suitcase, even though I always seem to get the little piece of paper from the TSA saying it was inspected. Having the zip ties is a great idea and something I will have to try just so I can see if they randomly pick my suitcases again on the next trip.

I've gotten that TSA slip, too. We always do our best to avoid air travel through the US when we can help it. :)
